Final Release Now Available

SUSE Linux 10.1 Final has been released.

Some of the many new features of the 10.1 release are:

• Linux kernel 2.6.16.13-4
• X.org 6.9.0
• gcc 4.10/glibc 2.4
• GNOME 2.12.2, KDE 3.5.1
• OpenOffice.org 2.0.2
• XEN3/YaST integration
• AppArmor application profiling/access control tool

The distribution comes on six ISOs -- the 5 CD open source version plus an add-on CD with proprietary portions (e.g. Adobe Acrobat Reader, RealNetworks RealPlayer, and Sun Java Runtime Environment) or on one DVD.

It can be downloaded from:
http://download.openSUSE.org in x86, x86-64, and ppc versions -
both via ftp and bittorrent.

HP Labs:
Dramatically lowers IT costs

A bundle of software innovations called SASU, for shared application server utility, allows organizations to consolidate IT resources, securely pool and share them and more easily design, test and deploy new applications.

Dick Lampman, HP senior vice president for research and director of HP Labs, reports, " Total Cost of Ownership was reduced by 70 percent, while utilization grew 300 percent -- and saved millions of dollars"
